A Well-Balanced Fashion Diet:

5 Tips on How to Achieve It

The fashion capitals of the world (New York, London, Milan, and Paris) have all wrapped up their Spring/Summer 2020 fashion weeks, having given us a glimpse of what we can expect to find in our closets or on our “Outfit Goals” Pinterest boards next year. The price tag for one of these runway looks can run up to $3500 or more, which for most makes owning anything fresh off the runway seem completely unrealistic.

With these high retail prices in mind, many shoppers skip high-end stores altogether and opt for the cheaper brands where they can find the trendiest rips from the latest designs. However, the problem with overloading your wardrobe with the cheap and trendy is that this often leaves you feeling like you never have anything to wear.

The goal, of any healthy fashionista, should be to have a closet filled with a well-balanced mix of high and low-end clothing. Combining designer brands with fast-fashion is a match made in style heaven because it provides variety to your closet, it’s the catalyst to achieving personal style, and it’s much easier on the pocket!

Here are 5 tips to help you become a well-balanced fashionista of high/low brands:

1. Invest In Timeless Pieces

In the words of Heidi Klum, “in fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out.” So imagine the disappointment when your Michael Kors tie-dye maxi skirt has been outlawed by the Fashion Police a mere 6 months after you purchased it! It’s savvier to invest your hard-earned dollars on closet staples like a pair of good jeans or a well-tailored blazer that can be worn for many fashion cycles to come.

2. Be Selective With Trends

Let’s be honest: it’s fun to be on trend with fashion. It gives you the immediate gratification of being cool. But at the same time, trying too hard to look cool is a fast track to the Chapo Lane! The trick is to be selective with the trends you choose to follow. Before you throw on those ripped jeans, consider if this trend complements your own personal style.

3. Avoid Doing The Most

Wearing too many designer pieces at the same time can make one appear desperate. It is absolutely verboden to walk out of your house wearing Gucci sneakers, a Louis Vuitton belt, and a Guess logo tee…all at the same time! Keep things simple by making these items the star in three different outfits.

4. Splurge On Accessories

Instead of holding on to a basket full of accessories that you purchased at your local supermarket, think about investing in a good watch or a pair of designer sunglasses that can take your little black dress to a whole new level. Because what’s an outfit without proper accessories?

5. Don’t Miss The SALE!

You may think that a brand is completely out of your financial league. But the truth is that even high fashion brands make room for tasty leftovers in the SALE section! Keep an eye out for this magical word in the window for pieces that are delightfully within your reach. Your wardrobe and your pocket will be happier for it!
